Sand If your wooden floor has been varnished, you'll need to lightly sand it to make the surface porous again. There will be a lot of dust, so this is a good time to sand your skirting, as you'll need to paint it after you've coated the floor for optimal effects. 2. Clean To eliminate any traces of debris, dust, and grease, vacuum the floor and wipe down sanded surfaces with degreaser. 3. Tape Once the surface is dry, use tape to mask the edge of the skirting board that touches the floor. 4. Paint Give your paint a thorough mix, and if you're using a roller for the first time, lightly cover it with water with a spray bottle. This reduces fluff and allows the roller to absorb more paint.
